Happy Things

Spread the love

This entire apocalyptic shitstorm is obviously depressing and incredibly anxiety inducing. We’re all trapped at home just as it’s getting nice out. Especially tough in the city––I take walks and sit on my fire escape on sunny days, a couple hours max. That’s it. I am away from my friends and family. I like being away from everybody else, but some of you may not (I imagine this is a particularly tough time for extroverts). Initially, I was kind of excited to have a bunch of time to get work done, or more likely sit around doing jack shit. At this point I feel kind of like I’m under house arrest. The economy is getting bad fast. And those are only my selfish concerns. To make no mention of the fact that the expected date for this to peak is May 1st, and hospitals in my city are quickly approaching capacity, with doctors working eighteen hour days, refrigerated trucks set up to store bodies because the morgues will be full soon. Things are bad and the shit has not completely hit the fan yet. I am very scared for everyone. Even aside from the direct effects COVID-19 has had and will have, our mental health is already suffering. I’m certainly not alone in that regard. So I made a happy list. I suggest everyone make a happy list—just a list of random things you like. These are (some of) my things.
